Building Our Legacy
A Capital Campaign for St. Elizabeth Parish
Previous Campaign Updates
Demolition has begun
Work began the week of July 13th, with securing the statues and cross from the buildings and demolition beginning on the lower school. Once down and the debris is cleared, the old convent will follow. The statues of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, the Blessed Virgin Mary and the cross on top of the convent have been removed and put away for safekeeping during construction. The SWAT Team from the KCMO Police Department also played a role this past week. They asked us if they could do some training exercises in the buildings before they were demolished. The answer, of course, was a resounding, YES!
Temporary fencing has been installed
And it begins! This past week (June 4), temporary fencing was put up all along the perimeter of the old convent, little school and green space/garden. Dump trucks delivered 90 loads of dirt for fill and created an impressive mound!
Student “Thank You Blessing” for Buildings
After our school mass on Wednesday, May 6th, STE students crossed Main Street for a special Thank You blessing for our buildings at 2 E. 75th and 4 E. 75th (the old convent/little school/parish offices). Immediately, everyone noticed a beautiful arc of light directly above the buildings! What an incredible moment as we said thank you and goodbye to these special buildings on our campus. As we look forward to the future of Building Our Legacy, we also look back in gratitude on our history and what has come before us.
Open House After Masses
Last Weekend, March 7/8, the Parish held an Open House in the old Convent and Little School/PMC after each of the Masses. Parishioners were invited to walk these hallowed halls one last time in search of memorabilia, keepsakes and for some, just memories.
